Speedometer problem

Hi All,

Another little niggle with my "M" plated C180.
today i noticed the speedo was not reading at all (odometer fine) then it jumped into action and was fine reading about 30. I have noticed it not reading until i reach about 20 mph since buying the car, but it has never went off altogether as it did today.
Just wondered if it was a well known problem or maybe i just have a loose plug or such like.

All the best,

Chris.

Yes sir, the stop pin gets sticky and stops the needle from moving, it can be cleaned

Thanks (again) Malcolm,
I presume the stop pin is in the speedo unit itself, looks like that instrument cluster is going to have to come out then! Oh well it will give me a chance to replace the bulb behind the clock while i am at it anyway.

Many thanks,

Chris.

This little 180 seems to be keeping me busy, hope i am not so busy when i buy my W140 S class!
Still, i am used to working on clapped out old VCR's so i would rather electronic bits need stripped and cleaned than big nasty oily bits.

Many thanks,

Chris.

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the offer!

Are you a vintage VCR enthusiast too?

I used to repair TV's and VCR's for a living in the mid 80's, now it is just a hobby.
Particular favourites are the Grundig SVR and the old Fergy's 3V16,29,35 etc.

All the best,

Chris.

I was only enthusiastic to the point that I bought a good pension and the SL from it all,58 years was enough:D:D
