Has anyone else had a similar problem? This is the drivers seat back in my 2017 C class estate. I have recently noticed this split on a stitched seam. Any ideas on how to do a decent repair or recommendation of an upholsterer in Hampshire area who could help would be gratefuly received. Many thanks. Cheers.

Sorry, I don't know of anyone but @Cole@MBS might have a name if he sees this.

It’s a well known problem with the Artico fake leather tat that Mercedes insists on fitting as part of the “sporty” AMG-Line package. Bizarre really as AMG Mercedes generally come with real Nappa Leather. Funny thing fashion…:eek:

Google car trimmers in your area and give one a call, they’ll no doubt be able to stitch in a new panel for you. You can also get complete new covers although they’re rather expensive.

I did the passenger seat base recently.
£250 for the part from Mercedes. Fitted it myself. Easy enough to do.

I have now had a closer look at both front seats and have found several small tears!! So now I think this has become far too expensive to repair. I am now thinking of fitting a pair of seat covers, another minefield!!! So can anyone please recommend a really good make of seat covers that fit properly and easily?? Many thanks in advance.
Cheers.
Graham.

I am really disappointed too. I did think the build quality would be better when I bought it. WOW you were lucky Eddie, all mine did was give me the number of an upholsterer who wasn’t interested!!

Never, there will just be more tat and cheaper interior fittings. Real quality has been engineered out by bean counters. Now I think I would be better quality used car before considering new mb.

My 1960 190B has original MBTex, no cracks/splits just some stitching come undone and a bit grubby. not bad for a 63 year old car.

Exactly.. From era where some quality was paramount. And with benz expected, today after baffling punters with enterior toys it's bean counter rules finished. Today an mb new unger 80k is similar to most, audi, bmw volvo ect.
When I get my house done reasonable I will have 5 car under house storage again . I have classic daily(minx or rover) in mind and maybe the grand turrisimo as a car to keep for odd days out if my research has me think its a fun investment
Even then only if house renno don't bankrupt me!!

If the car is a keeper I’d seriously recommend replacing with leather seats from salvage or having a car upholsterer recover them in leather

Malcolm, I think you are right. Being a pensioner it might take me a while to be able to afford new covers though.

I would think the cost to re-upholster in leather would be circa £1k in a decent leather for the two seats certainly worth getting some quotes in
