Sporadically changing from 'Automatic' to 'Manual'. Major issue? Minor fix?

Hi folks,

First time owner, and first time poster, so please bear with me.

I recently purchased a 2015 AMG SLK 250CDI, and of recent have been having an issue. When driving along in 'E', without any provocation, it will change to Manual, usually M2. As soon as I press the select button it changes back.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Does anyone know what may be causing it? Is it serious? A lot to fix?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can shed any light on this for me.

Welcome - sorry for asking but I suppose it’s nothing as simple as you touching the gear change paddles inadvertently?

To my knowledge, no, I am not touching the paddles.
