Spring Snapped

I have a 7 yr old 250 C Class. This morning I found that the right front spring had snapped or broken while the car was parked. The AA confirmed that this was a most dangerous fault had it occurred when driving. Is this a known weakness of the old C class and has anyone heard of this fault before. i had heard that the old C class had wek suspension. The car has been regularly serviced and has some 70,000 miles on the clock.

common fault with MB, Ive just replaced the two front springs on my cl500, it faile the MOT on one broken spring.

I think that with the state of the roads in the UK this is getting to be common place for all cars. Broken springs have featured alot recently in the trade press. It is not only MB that have a problem.
