can someone please help me before i drive my '04 sprinter through my local merc showroom window.
i bought my sprintshift sprinter on a friday afternoon in march '04, drove fifty miles over the weekend and on monday morning on my way into work it broke down, showing 52 miles on the clock. this must be a record.
the so called mobility crew showed up, fixed after eventually, then tried to lump me with a bill for 300 euros saying that i ran out of fuel, even though there was a quarter tank left.
over the next year it proceeded to break down 13 times from different things mostly caused by a glow plug relay, and some poor diagnosis on my local garages behalf.
a year ago it broke down again due to the hydraulic pump on the sprintshift malfunctioning. it was fixed outside my house and went ok for a while.
a few weeks ago it started to select neutral on its own at traffic lights, i brought it to my local garage and they could not detect a fault, or so they said, but did replace the sprintshift relay with a SECOND HAND ONE???????.
it failed to help the problem. i was in london last night on a job and the van got stuck in reverse, i rang mercedes and they advised me that my van (which i knew) was out of warranty, and i would be charged. however what about the warranty on the new pump fitted a year ago? surely it has a warranty? eventually i got fed up waiting on the recovery and got under the van, gave the pump a thump with the jack handle and it freed the jam. now while i was under there i noticed some kind of filter which was not changed
when the pump was replaced. so where do i stand? its 220 euros +vat for the pump alone, if i changed it myself would i need a merc computer to reset things? please help, i am freaked.

hi mick,
if it was a merc part fitted by dealer then it will carry a 24mth guarantee, or at least the car parts do!
cheers

Sorry to spoil things but I have had this discussion at length with my Mercedes commercial dealer. Parts fitted under warranty are only covered to the end of the origional warranty period not the 2yr warranty given on merc parts fitted or SUPPLIED by an official merc dealer. I checked and double checked as there have been numerous parts fitted to my van under warranty less than 12 months before the 3 year warranty expired (including but not limited to a new gearbox, engine and clutch.) In theory my engine and clutch could have been warranted until the van was nearly 5 years old if I had won the arguement!

Agree with Sprint, however if you paid towards the parts even slightly then they are warranted.
