Hi all,
My 97 LWB sprinter(240,000) has clouds of smoke coming out of exhaust.
A local garage replaced turbo(£400) and advised me to burn oil which had been deposited in exhaust by running it. Done this but no change so decided to disconnect turbo from exhaust, oil coming out of turbo. Considering age of van not sure which way to turn as i still don't know whats causing problem.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Regards nick.

What colour is the smoke, if blue suggest turbo seals have blown. When you fit a new turbo you have to prime with oil before running engine or it will blow the seals or bearings before the oil feed from the engine can supply sufficient oil, especially if you rev the whatsits off on startup.

more grey than blue and lots of it, oil issing out as well. I'm assuming garage primed new turbo, i've used them for 20 years and always had good service.

No external leak, oil still finding it's way into exhaust system.I think garage changing turbo was a expensive mistake.
