Hi all,I was traveling back from work today and while i was waiting at the traffic lights i could hear a ''Hissing'' sound from inside the cab of my sprinter 311cdi 03 reg. It was dark outside and as i drove off my speedo cluster and window was steaming up so i pulled over straight away and turned the interier light on to find water dripping from the bottom of the dash board. Since i bought the van 2 years ago i haven't had much bother with it so dont know a great deal about the water system etc on this van but having worked on cars years ago i know that there should be a small radiator for the heating inside the van so my question to you fella's is?

A: Can a DIYer do the job, I am a handyman you see and while my van is broke i cant earn money to pay for it so the only sollution is to attempt it my self.:(

B: Can any body give my any pointers before i get the tools out and fill my workshop full of sprinter parts:rolleyes:

It sits on the top of the dash, basically under the speaker grill thing in the middle. Can you do it? It takes me a good six hours, first thing in last thing out, the whole of the dash has to come out and some times you have to remove the steering wheel to get the dash out of the way, depends how brutal you want to be. Have a good look around as there are small hoses running to it, so you may be lucky.

leak found

thanks for replying. ye ive took out the dash and there is 2 alloy pipes bolted to the bulk head and the water is coming from the side of the lower one but as you said every thing has to come out.ive took the first layer of dash out but the next piece looks like its massive so im out to buy a flexi extansion for my ratchetn in the hope that it has worked its self loose which is unlikely but it is the first thing to try. I guese they dont go in that position often because i think mercedes didnt count on them going when they designed the dash.
Out of interest how did you repair yours deva? was it a now pipe, seal, gasket etc ????

Right, the leak is in the middle of the lower alloy pipe and to get the pipes out it looks even more of a pain so im affraid im bottleing out at this point. Im going to try and repair it by using some household plumbing repair paste.:-?
