Good morning,

So here goes, I have a 2014 313 sprinter, I have owned her for 11 months. For that 11 months I have experienced this starter issue, the best way to explain it is the warmer the engine gets the less she wants to do when trying to start her up. Turn ignition on cold and she rattle but does start, let her get warmer and she starts with a fuss, warmer still and the starter doesn't even turn, warmer still and she just about manges to turn over but no firing. All the lights always come on, sometimes I get a esp warning light and some side light or front parking light warming messages etc....

Now that being said I have done the obligatory YouTube surfing and attempting to sort that issue as I have spent a small fortune already... So all 6 relays have been replaced and the ground strap for a shiny new copper one.

I thought that may have solved the issue as many you tube guys had success with that.

Please, anyone that may have suffered with this gremlin then any advise would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Could it be starter motor related?
Can you hear the starter solenoid attempt to throw the starter gear? You should hear a click from the starter motor if it is.
Assuming that everything else is okay, the starter motor won't start turning the engine over unless it detects engagement of the starter gear with the flywheel.
Sometimes these can stick and a sharp rap with a light hammer on the starter motor casing may free it.
I'm not sure if this is still valid if you have Stop/Start fitted.

Otherwise I'd check for cam shaft sensor faults, these will stop the engine starting but often not running.
A crankshaft sensor fault will stop the engine from both running and starting. Typically, as these sensors age they fail when hot, before failing completely. So if the engine stops suddenly when hot and won't restart its likely the crankshaft position sensor. If the engine turns over but won't start when hot, its likely a camshaft position sensor fault.

Hello there,

To report, only issue with the MOT was worn brakes which also had some more wear on them... Next month I shall be replacing those.

The garage suggested we pop a new premium battery in as there was a power issue, why this wasn't mentioned before when they "checked everything last time" I don't know. So we did that and the starting issues has massively improved.

So the next issue to sort is low boost on turbo 1... . This issues started about 2 weeks ago, the garage checked the turbo which is working fine, they also said it's intermittent and just drive it as it seems like something is stuck.... Not sure what to do as I have no power going up hills and I'm pretty sure I'm straining the engine.

Anyway, many thanks for the help. Wish me luck sorting this please as I ****** need it
