Sprinter 313 steering problem ?

I have a sprinter 313 cdi just over 12 months old.
It recently threw a tensioner pulley and dropped the belt off whilst about 10 miles from home. I drove it carefully to my local Merc dealer where they promptly replaced the pulley and belt under warranty.
The problem that I now have is that the steering is slightly heavier than it was before and it doesn't quite self centre properly. Have I damaged / strained something whilst driving it home without the power steering working?
Anyone got any ideas please before I take it back the dealer?

it should not be possible to damage anything unless its the belt slipping. the self centering is also done by the pump, maybe the pump is faulty that's why it threw the belt in the first place.

sorry malc, but the self centreing is most deffo NOT done by the pump its "done" by the steerings geometry.....alan (power steering services):D

Thanks for your replies, I dont think that the pump is faulty. It was the tensioner pulley that was originally faulty, I had heard it squeaking on startup for a few days then it fell off completely.
