Sprinter crank sensor

1997 Sprinter 310d ,120k.On star,shows crank sensor as fault,power is down,but starts first time every time.Sounds slightly quieter than usual and touch thirstier than normal.No smoke from exhaust.Turbo seems ok.Will the crank sensor affect power and economy?
