Hi, Does anyone have a clue as to what can be the problem with my sprinter 310D as its driving me up the wall :( ,(no pun intended),

MB Sprinter 310D Treg 1999, has had a replacement engine fitted,

Problem - Heater plug glow light occasionally fails to go out, engine spins over but wont start, turn key on/off in/out etc several times no difference, try spare key and sometimes light will go off and van starts, :-D Hooray!!!!!!
The annoying thing is it can be fine for several weeks ,then refuse to go out for anything from 4-5 minutes up to 20-30 even 60 mins 1 time, so its becoming unreliable :(, All glow plugs have been replaced & timer relay replaced, has been to MB dealers, First time cost £320 for a temperature sensor plus all diagnosis test etc, £270 after complaint, same fault 2 weeks later, had it towed to MB again 2 months later after light refused to go out after 2 days, delivered to them sat afternoon and left with them till monday, Monday came the call-they suspect fuel pump ??????? £1200 estimate, Told them too expesive and would collect,Mate came to tow me, Jumped in van and light went out, so didn`t need a tow, had another computer test on it elswhere can`t find a problem, said fuel pump message was prob due to comp not being wiped & rechecked, Help i`m at my wits end,
Could it be the immobiliser or key chips etc ?????

the filament in the bulbs round you house die.... they live in a nice quiet bubble of vacuum troubled by just about nothing...

the "filament" in your tractor glow plugs suffer hell every millisecond the vehicle is running. They are heated to crazy temps, subject to massive combustion pressure, and vibrated to death all the time... Thus Glow plugs are service items !

They need replacing every 60k miles, later vehicles >2004 where they operate ALL the time the car is running, have a control module people call a relay, its full of software and budget electronics, this item should be replaced along with the plugs,

Must admit I haven't heard of them on all the time.
I know about the afterglow period for some but not on all the time which car does that ?

When they want it isn't all the time.
