I plan to bolt a roof rack directly through the roof of my LWB sprinter, by drilling through the roof struts and sealing the holes with Sikaflex. My problem is I have lined the interior of the roof with ply and carpet (its a self build camper van) so I can't tell exactly where the roof struts are.
What I'm after is a diagram with these measurements. Can anybody help?
Many thanks
Jim

Hi Jim

I just checked, it wasn't shown on that data sheet I sent you so I think your only option is to pop down to your local van hire place or merc van dealer and take a tape measure and notepad with you. I am sure if you ask nicely they will let you grub around in the back of a van for 10 minutes.

I'm sure I dont need to warn you about putting too much weight up top! My van really wallows around when I get really tall display units in that fill it to the roof and if you weren't used to it I am sure it would fall over at the drop of a hat.

Thanks for that Steve, that was going to be my last option. I thought there might have been a spec sheet out with those measurements on it. I will be carrying windsurfing kit on the rack, 50 Kg at the very most. I have had several panel vans (although not a sprinter) with similar kit on the roof, so I'm quite used to it.
Regards
Jim

thought it was worth mentioning, with some of the loads I carry I would reckon there have been times when there has been 1/2 ton or more located above my head height when I am seated. You really have to think about the pendulum effect when cornering or negotiating roundabouts where several direction changes are required. I doubt you will even notice the sort of weight you are contemplating.
