sprinter 310d 130k,metallic clatter at lowish revs when driving, but not at tickover or higher rpm.My thoughts were either tappets or cam chain tensioner-any thoughts/definitive test?

Clutch on alty or tensioner, chances are if the clutch is gone then it's done the tensioner in, look for the belt and tensioner jumping about. Never had a tappet go, but. More info is realy needed to be more precise.

Had the aux belt, pulley and tensioner replaced about 2k miles ago and mech said alt was ok.seems worse accelerating in 2nd and goes as revs rise.Noticeable when driving past high walls or through bridges
