Hi all, New member as I have had no need to ask a tech question until the other day.
Mercedes Sprinter 311 CDI (02 plate)
Friday afternoon, changed battery as old one was showing it's age, whilst the bonnet was up I thought why not clean the engine bay and the gutter just below the windscreen with a hose which is what I done (with the engine running) and everything was great. Turned off van and locked it up for the weekend.
Monday morning started no problem as it normally does but when pulling away there seemed to be a lack of power. Tried it for the rest of the day but with no change I decided to check the obvious.
Checked all plugs and sensors for water = none found
Checked intercooler pipes = ok
Checked wiring at front near rad = no fault found
Checked all pipe work = ok

Now I'm stuck,
there's no EDC light on as it goes out when engine has been started.
It will not go past 4200rpm and I have found that once your past 2800rpm she takes off as normal, turbo's whistling away as it has been for years but I really need help with this one.
Got a lad with a tech 2 machine coming tomorrow afternoon but I would still like some advice.
Oh and another thing the mpg is terrible. There's no smoke or anything that can give me a sign but was it when I washed the engine bay(which I have done in the past) or was it from changing the battery.
Regards Andy

Don't they normally rev to 4200rpm? I had normal limp home mode sympotons minus edc light limited to 3800rpm with my 312D after driving tropugh some fairly major floods, like water half way up the doors. so it might be some water where it shouldn't be from washing it.

Sounds like the wiring to the valve may be exposed due to chaffing and you washing it was just the final nail in the coffin.

Remove the grill and the driver's side head light. Below the headlight in front of the air filter box, is a black valve with a few small vac pipes going to it and one going to the wastegate actuator on the turbo. Check the wiring to this valve for signs of chaffing or corrosion. They do rub on the corner of the rad. the wiring goes back to the engine control unit but I'm not sure of the pin numbers or what multiplug it's on without looking at the Star Machine. So just check it visually for now.

Check the valves operation by removing the vac hose from the turbo and put your finger on it, you should feel it sucking on your finger and not when revved Hard. If it's not, check the vacuum going into the valve by disconnecting the other hose and holding your finger over the end. If that's sucking ok and you've checked the wiring out then replace the Valve (I think they're about £60) as it may have water ingress in it.

Hope that helps.:D Let us know how you get on.......

Spoke to a lad in aMercedes garage and he has a spare valve I can try, as far as the wiring goes I removed the multi-plug from the ECU and put power down the wires to a test light at the other side where the valve is and it was lighting up showing me that the power was getting there. There are no signs of chaffing as I have allready removed the grille, headlight. Also tested the pipe work with no fault but I may have missed something so if this valve does'nt work then it's back to the wiring.
Update tomorrow night.
