Now i'm going to refer to it as the fan belt although i am aware it doesn't drive the fan.
So my fan belt had been aqueeking for a while so i had it changed, the squeek was worse once it was changed, so i took it back, mech said it ws due to abuild up of rubbe rinthe grooves on the idlers etc and he would clean them out for me, said it was done it now only happens on start up....it still squeels all the time! Don;t want to go back again, is there a chance that i can just rectify it by messing with the tension?

Hi Bill312d, i personally would take a look at the pivot. its located at the bottom of the damper and spring. Its common for the bushes inside the pivot to wear out and then wear the pin (securing bolt). . leading to the pivot to not sit level. Or to seize up and no longer move. If you intend to remove / repair yourself be carefull, there is a shim (washer) between the rear of the pivot and the block. Hope this helps steve
