It occasionly does it on my E220.
It's usually the connecting ring in the steering wheel needing a clean. I find that if I disconnect my battery for an hour or so the problem disappears for several weeks.
Depending on how you feel about the possibility of your airbag not going off in event of a crash will warrant how serious an issue it is for you. But considering how most the cars and wagons I drive at work don't have airbags and my 220SEb doesn't even have seat-belts I'm not too concerned.
