My SRS light came on yesterday, and is still on this morning. Will it cause the car to fail its MOT that is due in the next couple of weeks? Also will it now just stay on, or will it automatically reset if the fault clears? I have a feeling its a wire under the seat, as I had not long moved the seat when it came on!

Cheers,

Matt.

The SRS system is not part of the MOT inspection and the warning light staying on is not a reason for failing the test, but it is in your interest and that of your passengers to have this rectified as soon as possible as the SRS system is not operating so long as the light remains on.
If the light goes out after 2mins it means there is a non-critical fault and the system is still operative.
Do a search for this problem as it has come up recently and was due to a faulty wiring connector on the passenger seat but I can't remember if it reset automatically once the fault was fixed.

Ok thanks, I plan to get it fixed, but my MOT is due before pay-day! I will have a look at the wires under the seat and see if there is anything obvious.

Thanks,

If my memory is correct there is as C220GJS says an issue with the wiring and possibly a seat pad, but I think that the wiring could be the most likely

Looking around the world last night I see the the sear pad is more of a problem than the wiring, though it could still be either

what does that do then malcolm ?
i'm guessing sends a signal to srs system when someone is in the seat to make sure the seat belt is fastened.

Yes correct that is what it does, its a strange world with faults, whilst there is a known wiring issue under the seat, in other parts of the world this is unheard of, an is always the sensor pad.

If it is the pad, the upholstery can be taken off with the seat in the car.The fault code does not have to be cleared.

If this is the seat pad at fault if the owner would care to post the old one to me (I will pay the postage) I would like to dissect it to see what goes wrong.

I will let you know, I havent had time to look as yet. If it is the seat pad, I will get the indie to keep hold of the old one for me, and will send it. But it may be a few weeks before I have the time to get it sorted.

Thank you very much, it could go in our DIY section, this is not a safety item as such as you are told if the system is not working

I've been having SRS warning light issues, usually during or just after a passenger has been in the cari n the front passenger seat.
It happened today and has been on all the way home from work (25 miles) I read about the passenger seat pad post and have gone out and given the seat a pull about and within a few tugs the light was out - pad sensor it must be then, saved the cost of a diagnosis I guess !

The fault on mine turned out to be the wiring to the seat pad was broken. As the indie had the seat stripped when he found the fault, he replaced the pad anyway.... the problem has not returned so far.

I'm sure that I've seen at least one picture of a certain young lady sat in your passenger seat Malcolm not that she could do any damage I'm sure !
