You should remove the ignition key before changing the battery to avoid this. You have put a fault in the system which, due to being safety related will probably not go out without being reset by diagnosis equiptment.

If it has been logged in the ecu as a fault it wont reset unless you get it on STAR to have it removed.
Was the key in the ignition and turned on when you disconnected it?
If it was the thats why this happened, the car tried to make a full circuit at a point and it didnt work hence the fault code and the SRS light.
(or so i believe)

I am not sure if key was in.

Someone else changed the battery so i guess that is what they must have done, Will that stop all the airbags working now then?
Also i there anyway of turnung door airbags off in rear when baby is in back.
thanks once again

its a 2 min job at the dealers, but they will have a minimum charge to hook it up to star - if the reset doesn;t work, try an indie with star. I had similar after disconnecting the passneger seat electrics ( doing this cut off the weight sensor - doh!), but as it was under warranty, I pleaded ignorance and they reset it under warranty. Looks like yours is out of warranty, unless you have bought the additional service care? Or have a full MBSH in which case mobolife might be worth a shot. But the will know someone else changed the battery - it will be pretty obviuos (being nice and clean!)

Don't have weight sensors in this country - US only on this model.
