Hi everybody, I hope someone here can help me out as the merc stealership think that because I'm a women they have a legal right to rip me off, every time I go near them, telling me this needs to be replaced and so does this then next service it,ll be needing this and that. Enough waffle down to my problem. SRS light started to come on and off a few days ago, now it won't go out at all. I was wondering if theres a quick fix to reset it or do I have to get the cheque book out. Thanks for any help in advance, Kaz . Suppose I should say its a E200 classic year 2000

The SRS lamp on could mean many things all to do with the safety belts to Air bags and seatbelt tensioners, no easy way round this, it will have left a fault code that can be read out.

OK Thanks for the suggestions, How do I get the fault code out of the computer. The dash is not showing a malfunction, Does this have to go merc stealers to hook up to computer or is there another way. I'm not a complete idiot and can do a lot of repairs myself. (more used to driving old wrecks).Already checked connections under seats and srs ecu under gearlever, slammed doors harder than would normally to eliminate bad connections in door air bags. Throw what you can at me I'm used to getting dirty.

Many garages have fault code readers able to read this fault, the lamp being on is showing that there is a malfunction, but sorry you cant read it yourself, but if you are told what the problem is, maybe you can fix it.

srs light

No garages round me even have computers merc dealers is in the village where we live but they are absolutely useless. Most of them are apprentices and they seem surprised when I tell them how to do jobs in 1/2 an hour instead of going by the manual and taking 3 hours. Last job was a basic service plugs and filters no more, didn't trust them, they tried charging €400.
€54 for a set of plugs (bosch) plus vat and fitting.

I've got the SRS light on, and the air bag light on the centre console on my 2001 E320 at the moment. Diagnostic has pointed to (suprise suprise) the sensor in the passenger seat. Local indie has quoted about £350 for part and fitting (doesn't seem too bad considering the amount of work involved).

I tried disconnecting the battery before taking it in in case this re-set the system and got rid of the light. Be aware that if you do this you will need to re-cal the windows (wind them down, back up and hold button for 10 secs in turn, and also re-cal BAS and ASR by turning the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times).

Good luck.

When the battery is disconected many systems will re set themself. interesting though that not all cars need a re set of windows and BAS and ASR, my sl 1999 never needs a re sync where as others do.

After I disconnected my battery my windows would only 'jerk' down and back up until I had done the 're-cal' - although I don't understand why they should need the cal. in the first place?

As you say interesting that some models exhibit the charcteristic whilst others do not.

Sorry, Angus, if it was the brake switch you had ESP and ABS.

seat pad sensor replaced

I have today replaced the seat pad sensor (srs/airbag lamps on) in my fathers 2000 320cdi,cost £30 to diagnose the problem £79 for the sensor from the stealership and less than 2hrs to fit.why do owners pay £350 or more when its an easy job?
ps,lamps reset themselves once reconnected.

You pose a hard question here, and I have sugested what you have done twice in the last few hours with some other faults. The big problem is that we have a mixed bunch here, there are those who can do many things and those that could not mount a shelf on the wall, without it falling down if the wind blew. The tools we own are something else and You cant tell someone what to do here, only advise, yes,I feel sad when someone has paid out a lot for what you and I call a simple job, but that is life.

From my point of view I was happy to let the indie do it - I didn't want to start fiddling with an expensive motorised leather seat, or part of the airbag system.

I understand your reasons for not doing the job,but it is a job any competant garage could do for a lot less money than a indie or dealership. The mercedes seats are a lot less complicated than many of the cheaper brands of cars.

I know of a few indies in the dublin area that can read the codes for you. I use a garage in Malahide

I too have a SRS light problem and have searched this forum for months on end on how to fix it. Can Ivor do us all a guide to removing the sensor pad and replacing it. I'm quite hands on myself so would be having a go but would prefer some guidance from any one who's had a crack at it.

Cheers
