Hi
My SRS Airbag light has come on and stayed on. The fault according to the diagnostics is "4 Drivers Airbag squib Ignition circuit. (R12/3)". IF i have the error reset, the light comes on within a few yards of driving the car. My Car is a 2001 CLK 230 Kompressor. Can anybody help please? Regards Adrian

It is available from MB and comes as the complete connector block for the steering control module. with wires which need to be soldered into the existing loom.

The steering wheel and electrics behind it need to come off the the connector can be replaced. If You are not a very competent mechanic I would get a garage to do it. If you feel confident enough to give it a go. Be very careful to get the connections correct and disconnect the battery.

Just had this fault on my late 2004 (facelift) W203. Dealer said its quite common and takes 3.5hrs which would have been a little worrying had I not had ServicePLus.

In the event apparently MB paid anyway without reference to ServicePlus. I guess that may be just an internal thing, and people without ServicePlus might not be so fortunate.

We have only ever had 2 or 3 of these faults on the forum Rory

I've since found this issue mentioned on a US forum and it seems to go back a long way - one owner reporting an issue with a 2001 CLK that needed the same fix at a cost of $300.

The dealer had a very detailed multipage advisory document to refer to.

Other than it being a "fault" I still don't know what was actually wrong - with the talk fo slip rings I wondered if it might be related to lack of use, but of course the service advisor had no idea.

You have a clock spring, that transfer the button functions from the rotating steering wheel, to the car, this is 40 in this link, as Cole has said on these post there is a mod,and it is a delicate operation

Thanks - hope it's a permanent fix!

I do have to wind the car from lock to lock to get it in and out of its parking space (one reason why I don't use the car so much is it's a bit of pain to get it into its space). Maybe that has exacerbated the problem.
