I have a 2000 C Class and had the same problem. Took it to the garage and apparently there was a wire loose under the front passenger seat. The guy simply fixed it back and the light stopped coming on. Took all of 3 minutes.
Don't know if this would apply to an E class.

srs fault

Hi

the seat squab fault is common its not a massive job about 1.5 hours some Tecs are reluctant to do them as it is more of a trim job
