Hi everyone,
Another day in the life of an 2006 R230, good old SRS malfunction, "visit the workshop":mad:
So, its wet and cold out, so I wont be doing much work on her but need a plan of attack.
Ive searched here for relevant tags but can't find much, might be me.....:rolleyes:
Starts ok, boot battery not at its best as "conveinience functions unavailable" at least for a while til battery levels allow.
SRS message "bong", and when I plug in any seat belt, I think its the tensioners (in my seats) rattle away with big clicky noises :eek:.
If these are relays chattering they aint gonna last long...... :(, so we aint going nowhere.
I also have no wipers, washer pump, and the comand head unit screen goes on and off at will....related?
Anyone have somewhere to start with this or evan heard of this combo of faults?
I have an Autel MaxiDiag Elite to hand so hope to grab a code or two, not sure if its gonna be good enough though

Apologies if your replies are not responded to in a timely fashion, I don't to get notifications on my phone any more, again, might be me...

Water :eek:, thinking about it we have had some mighty mighty downpours lately, I daren't look......but I must be brave.
Does water trickle into some particular component on the way to the boot floor?

I think it’s probably your EZS ignition switch. Seen this before a bunch of times. If you hit the dash with the heel of your hand right next to where the key goes in sometimes the fault will go away. That’s my acid test.

Phew...no water but condensation !
Nothing damp otherwise.
Battery at 10.4 Vdc so a charging we shall go, just gotta find ye old Buddygo purchased couple of years ago for sons rarely driven RX8 .
But there lies another concern. If battery cozy indoors, I close boot, will the lid auto latch?. I can turn my boot key, but less than 40 degrees without resistance so not sure if I'll be able to lock the car. I don't know if the starting battery does other stuff other than starting..... Don't wanna do anything with knowing what should happen.

I doubt that’s condensation…:(
Key should turn 90° to open and it’s the last 10° that does the opening.
I’d change it in situ and trap the cable in the boot.
If taking it out I wouldn’t lock the boot - unless I knew for definite that the mechanical key lock worked.

Well that's annoying, this key won't turn any further without some excessive force, and I not doing that....

Defo trying this, wonder if MB saw this and redesigned this area ....
:eek: Wonders will never cease.....
Thumping near the key a few times and it went off, wipers started wiping etc, but moments later came back but have to say, not with the rapid switching like before.
Sat with the Autel plugged in, scanning EZS, B1 010 under voltage supply, kinda makes sense with the battery less than desired.
Sat here for 40mins idling and all's well.
Cleared the one code, Scanned 31 modules, all pass now.
It's still a worry.....:oops:
Bit of trivia......Uncle Benz suggestion, and I work for well known rice retailer......this is spooky

So spent the last 1/2 hour......
turn off, wait 30 secs
turn key to 1st position.....clicky clicky starts again
thunmp thump thump.....clicky stops
start car.....great

Repeat....same, repeat, same.

Looks like Uncle has nail it....thank you.
Next to figure how the hell I fix it......:rolleyes:

Just to touch on the battery....
Im running an Exide EA770, can't find my charger....typical, when you want something :rolleyes:
Would it be unjust to seek out a better battery?
Whats better?, dont know, worth it?, dont know....
Any suggestions seriously considered

Update, battery charged, no more clicky clicky, or thumping of the key area. No faults...
Was it just the battery.....time should tell

Well that's just dandy. Jumped in her for 1st time since December..... the clicky clicky has returned, seatbelt solenoid pretty much massages me :p.
SRS, radio, wipers, 12vdc sockets......refusing to work....consumer battery is low though :rolleyes:, maybe not enough juice to energize the circuits ?
Any other thoughts peeps.....

Charge it first and keep a battery conditioner on it when you’re not using it

^ THIS. Experience (and reading numerous threads on this subject) taught me that under no circumstances whatsoever can you leave an SL350 standing for any period without a Ctek or similar attached to the consumer battery. Asking for frustrating problems if you don't do this.

thanks, yep, just measured 10.35 Vdc, damn it....
charger bound to be back of the shed.....just because I need it :confused:
I'll let you'all know if charging sorts this, so hoping....
As for a maintainer/conditioner device, what would the minimum input amps? looks like they vary somewhat....
