SRS PROBLEM

My car is a CLK 55 AMG w209.

Hi guys,

Today I woke up to find when I switched on my car A SRS signal came up on my dashboard, I was naturally worried and took it down to my Mercedes specialist who put it onto the computer for me and ran the “diagnosis assistance system programme”

It came up with the AB-Airbag Sign

Code

B106D : the component or the signal line to the component b48 (front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition has

and also

B106C: fault in communication with component B48 (front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition) or there is a cable fault.

Basically at first they thought it was a wire problem as one of their mechanics said a wire was put wrongly, so they fixed that after 1 hour. (that was strange) however the SRS problem light still came on. They then called down a guy who has more knowledge and he says that the seat sensor must be faulty, and they need a new one which requires taking out the seat and stripping it down and then getting to the sensor and replacing it.

The only problem is that the seat sensor cost 265 pounds plus 2 hours of labour at 60 pounds per hour:

The part number is P/N 2098209510.

Does anyone have this one as spare?

If you don't NEED the sensor to work (i.e. no kidde seat in the front) why not simply disconnect it/remove fuse and then leave it?

apparently thats illegal :) as if you have a crash and then someone is sitting in the seat the airbags wont deploy becasue the car think there is no one there

A 2.7 ohm resistor in place of the pad should put the lamp out to test

Sorry - I was confused. I assumed that the sensor in question was for a M-B child seat, which knocks the airbag off when it is in place.

On a pedantic point i would argue that it is not illegal to de-activate the passenger airbag....there are many cars that dont have a passenger bag fitted, it is not a mot requirement to have a working srs system and, as a final point, the owner of a srs equiped vehicle can opt to have the system disabled if he so wishes (some disabled drivers apparently use this option for whatever reason)

Having said that, it would be good practice to advise any passenger that they dont have the protection afforded by an airbag before they travel in the said circumstances.

bypass

You can get a little black box that will bypass the pad in the seat allowing the airbag to be active all the time you are driving
cost is about £100. EASY DIY JOB JUST SOLDER THE THREE WIRES TO THE BOX
I do have a spare box at present
only thing is you will not be able to put kids in front with baby seat
small price to pay

dont think its seperately fused, as posted above put the resistor in place to fool the system into thinking someone is sitting in seat, cheaper easier fix,

Thanks but I really have no idea at all how to do such a 'repair', maybe I was just wishing it would be very simple.

Yeah, there are three wires... Does anyone know how to do the bypass with the resistors or where to buy the black box? Thanks

which wire to put the resistor?

i have the same problem.c230 1998. the light is on. i noticed that when i had a passenger that the light was on and off. i took the sensor out of the passenger seat, tried it on a e320, 2000 and the light never came on. so i concluded that the sensor is ok. but what else can be wrong? i would try the resistor but on what wire? there's 3.thanks.

This can be the seat belt buckle or loose wires under the seat.

One snag here is that once the lamp is on it may not go off without being turned off on STAR though this may not apply to the seat wire or buckle fault

My srs light has just come on and I would like to eliminate the seat pad sensor by testing with the resistor. As was previously mentioned there are three wires, so which two do I put the resistor across? One is red, one white and one brown which I presume is an earth. Also does it matter if the pad is connected when the test is carried out? Thanks in anticipation

Hi,
Did you have this fault diagnosed as being the seat pad at fault?
Even when the box is connected properly i think you will still need to get the warning light extinguished by plugging into a STAR diagnostic computer.
IIRC correctly a new seat pad isn,t much more than what you paid for the "black box", all that is needed is a 5p resistor to extinguish the SRS warning light.
