SRS warning on/VIN mismatch

Hi,

I have an issue with my Mercedes Viano 2004 where the SRS warning light is constantly lit. I have taken it to my local garage and they showed me the diagnostics machine while there were working on it, the machine showed that the VIN number of the car didn't match by four digits (i.e the cars VIN is WDF63981123007865 but the machine was showing WDF6398112300yyyy). The mechanic said that he couldn't change the VIN number using his machine.
So I then sent the ECU to an ECU specialist, they carried out their diagnostics and found that the VIN number was coming up correctly on their machines and that no fault could be found, so they sent the ECU back to me. Upon refitting the ECU, the same SRS light has come up again.

Not sure what is causing this and would appreciate any feedback and recommendations!

As above, find a Mercedes independent specialist with STAR diagnostics.

The Vin# you posted checks out as a Japanese market vehicle. Maybe that is where the garage couldn't identify with it matching the van?
