stalling 230te

my 230te petrol estate keeps stalling in traffic, then after a few minutes starts again. It starts from cold fine also. When it stalls it the electrics shut down first. Does anyone have any idea what this could be please? Garage at a loss, though maybe fuel relay??

Thanks for your reply, taken me a while to manage to get back on to the forum...!
Basically all the dash lights come on (the red lights etc) signifying that the engine has stalled, it sort of splutters (without splutter noise) to a halt therfore - the garagist has run the engine continuously in the garage - it doesn't seem to do it when stationery, only when in traffic, moving slowly (haven't tried it on any long distances though since this started happening).
Once it's stalled, wait for 3 - 5 minutes and it starts again, having tried a few times during this time when it doesn't start. But becoming more frequent now, the amount of times it stalls that is.

Any clues would be great, but I think it could be one of many things (coil/computer?) - apart from that a good car, but at the end of it's life as not prepared to spend on many possibles before resolution. Will be scrapped I expect.
