Our 2000 C280 has started stalling  Bought one year ago with 62K miles, now has 69K. Flawless performance until last week. Pulled into our garage, got out to be sure it cleared the door, engine died. Would not restart despite several attempts. Late at night, too late to fool with. Started next afternoon with no problem. Noted fuel was low. Drove to gas station (less than 2 miles) and filled with 91. Would not start. Parked it and returned about three hours later. Started right up, drove home. Today it started easily again. Connected my scan tool, no codes stored or pending, the data available seemed normal. While I had it idling it quit once again, & would not restart. When it dies, there is no stumble or hesitation. It just stops as if I'd turned the ignition off.

I just went and tried it again. Started fine, ran fine about five min., died. Could this be heat related? I've seen a few MAF sensor posts. Is this one of the symptoms? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi. Thanks. Got one $113.00 USD. Just don't know where to put it. Don't see anything similar on the front cover or bellhousing. Haven't bought a manual yet, guess I should. Can you tell me where the ckp is located on this engine? Thanks again.

Hi Mike & Jan,
I have the problem exactly the same as yours on my CLK320 V6 engine,
I sent my car to the local M-B for a Diagnosis check and told to change the MAF sensor & all 12 of the spark plugs, so I have done and the problems as the same, I now have changed the air filter, fuel filter and fuel pump relay but nil help, if you could let us know how you get on after you change the crankshift sensor. thanks..

To All, but especially piestore: thank you, thank you, thank you.
The L5 crank sensor is exactly what it was. There is a mid-year part change, so of course the dealer sold me the wrong one first, even with the VIN. Didn't have the old one out yet. Found the location on Alldata through work. Bellhousing behind the left head. Easy to change. Fired right up, got my truck back from my wife. Thanks again.

Any make of car using a hall effect sensor on the crank can show similar faults.Over time the thin coil winding wire breaks causing cutout.
Why anybody would start changing airfilters, sparkplugs etc is daft...blocked filters or fouled plugs cause rough running.

This is all so true, plugs,filters,O2sensors(lambada & EGR) can make it run rough but will never stop the car from starting, or running. The battery being the Number 1 cause of faults leaves the Crankshaft sensor in 2nd place.
