I am taking my car to a loclal ex MB tech to STAR code the instrument cluster. Its really so it recognises the COMAND retrofit, and the direction arrow etc. shows up in the instrument cluster display.
Are there any other hidden goodies he could unleash with the STAR that I may not have like fold on close mirrors etc.?

thanks

Chas :D

Chas,

I think the auto fold fuction did not come in until the facelift (2003), but dealer told me that to tell if the function could be programmed, press the door switch to fold the mirrors in, if it goes all the way in with one press, then it can be programmed. If you have to hold the button until it is folded, then it can't.

May be you can get the tyre pressure monitors activated, thats the version that operates from the speed signal

The concensus on this facility in my local is that you're far better off without it Certainly on new Renaults my friends pull their hair out over it! - Use a good gauge and footpump every week or so and trust that is their advice. Never 'enjoyed it' myself.

Hi david, there are two types, the one with sensors and the one that used the rotation of the wheel, it is the later one, I agree the others are a pain

Mainly Mercedes
A tyre with a flat bit at the bottom presents a smaller rolling radius than the other wheels, therefore has to spin a bit faster to keep up. The esp module can detect this from the wheel speed sensor readings, and flag it up.

Sorry to butt in - you asked Malc the question.

I thought it might be something to do with the wheel radius...

thank you, and I am sure Malcolm won't mind.

My W209 Jan 04 mirrors fold with one touch but Hughes of Aylesbury told me that it could not be programmed to fold on lock. It's going in again soon so I will ask again.

Even if they are capable of being programmed to fold I think there are several issues here.
The dealers generally won't change the car away from its standard spec, so if they didn't autofold out of the factory then they won't change that.

Also, I'm not sure how StarDiagnose works, but I think to do non-standard things requires a knowledge of its operation that not all technicians have.
