You may have confused some with the wrong name; and many are not yet aware that MB dealers can now do low-cost small repairs to paintwork, interiors etc. Thsi is what the MB website says under Service and Maintenance: -
Your Mercedes-Benz Official Workshop now offers a quick, easy and inexpensive solution, to repair minor damage without the cost of removing panels or the hassle of having your car out of action for days.

Instead, simply book your car in for an appointment at our Small Area Repair Technique (SMART) workshop. They’ll sort out everything from a chipped windscreen to a torn seat, a cracked bumper to a dented wing – and have your Mercedes-Benz back to you as good as new, in next to no time.

Friends who have used it have been very surprised at how low the cost was. Why not phone your local dealer and ask for a rough idea. Tell them how big the scratch is. Bad luck.

I think you will find that it is unlikely that any SMART repairer will be able to help with a scratched bonnet (assuming the scratch goes through the lacquer and cannot be 'polished out'). SMART repairs are really only designed for small to medium areas with a suitable 'blend zone' - required to blend the new paint into the existing car paintwork. This isn't usually possible on a bonnet due to its large surface area which is fully lit from above. It's much easier to hide a repair on a wing or bumper. Not meaning to sound pessimistic but you shouldn't be surprised if you are advised that a bonnet respray is required.

Yes a complete respray of the bonnet is usually required, you will never hide a touch up at eye level.

Welcome to the forum, though not with that bad news:(

But the thing is I really dont want to spend money all the time, I would rather pay a fixed price for X amount of money and if there is a problem then I can easily get it repaired for less amount of money. If you know what I mean so thats why I wanted to ask how much money would it be.

Did you get your post out of the MB website?

If not you should be in marketing ;)

Thanks for the welcome Malcolm! I've been reading the forum for a while now and have found it an invaluable source of good information. I don't intend to always contribute bad news :).

On a positive note, I have had my first Mercedes for 2 months now and I'm delighted with it

cheers

Sorry not to respond to this last night Don, but I had to go off and compose myself after reading your note. The mental picture conjured up of the perplexed, puzzled, confused, wounded look on your face when you spotted that my spell check had strayed into your original text was the best tonic I have had in years!

I hope that the PSPU (post Stella punch up) was up to standard and that she arose refreshed and radiant this morning?

With Will about you'll never cover it up full stop

Paint thickness can be electronically measured with a device costing £100 and this unveils repairs. Nothing too worry about, virtually every car at Ollies has had additional paint.

yes it was up to standard and she quite happily dragged herself to work this morning armed with the usual being clumsy excuses for her workmates"walked into a door" "slipped in the shower" etc etc

I had starsmart on the last MB I bought from MB Direct in Manchester. The costs depend on the time you intend to own the car. 3 years cover costs £399, plus theres a £25 excess each time you make a claim. You can claim up to £3000 in repairs each time and theres unlimited claims.

However, I wouldnt do this again. They use the exact same technology as the MB SMART system and if you call, they will just book you into the nearest MB dealer to have them do it.

I worked out, over the 3 years I owned the car, I claimed 16 times each time for a stone chip and once for a scratch. That means I spent a total of £400 in excesses plus the £399 initial payment. £799 in total for 16 minor repairs. Also, you are meant to claim within 14 days of noticing the damage which was quite inconvenient sometimes. There are also limitations to the repair service, such as a scratch needs to be less than 15cm in length.

To be honest, I wouldnt bother doing this again. With my new car, I will wait until I get 3 or 4 stone chips and then visit my dealer. It will be cheaper. Also I protect my NCB so any larger repairs, I'll just claim on my car insurance.
