Start Stop yet to operate in my ownership 2016 C Class C250D AMG Line

Recently acquired a C250D AMG Line estate and have read numerous threads on the need for all the stars to align before the start stop system will function.

My dash has only ever displayed the yellow "A" with line through it, this is in stark contrast to the 2 VW Golfs I previously owned where the start stop function (whilst I agree is a tad annoying) operated without issue even after the car had sat for a long period.

Is it more than likely that the cause is a degrading Voltage converter aux battery ?

Hi,

I had the same problem in my 2016 E class Coupe.

Into Mercedes who explained needed a new Aux Battery so likely this is the cause.

Luckily mine was replaced under warranty.

If I leave my car standing for a couple of weeks - maybe move it out the garage for a wash but no driving - it takes about an hour of driving before the green light comes back on. Car is only 3 years old and has been like this from day one - so I assume is normal.

You could try charging the battery up over-night, after which the Start-Stop should function after 1/2 mile of driving . . .

I wouldn’t complain; it’s only required for MB to meet environmental legislation. Auto stop/ start is a major pain in the arrse in my opinion!

Yes I would think so. I think it’s a fairly common issue at that age ?

I wholeheartedly agree with that, sounds to me like a blessing. Apart from starting the car turning off the stop/start is the first thing I do

It may well be that the car has been sat doing nothing for a long while at the dealers. My 2018 car took a couple of 80 mile round trips to get back to normal after being used for only the occasional short local journey during lockdown. I would just give it a few weeks and a couple of longer journeys and see what happens.
