Hi
I have recently purchased a MB SLK 230K it has covered 32000 miles but seems to have a rattle for a few milliseconds starting from cold. I have been told that this is a sluggish hydraulic tappet and nothing to worry about. Is this possible or is it something more sinister?
Best Regards

Tappet noise.

I too understand that this noise is the "self adjusting" tappets doing their thing after start up and is normal. Seems logical.

Mine does the same but it's only for few seconds so I just ignore it. After few seconds the sound gets quieter.

Hi W77 sounds like the noise is coming from the camshaft actuator which is located under a plastic cover at the front of the rocker cover.Remove the cover which just lifts off and before you start the engine disconnect the wiring plug on the actuator if noise stops actuator needs replacing. This is quite a common problem.
