hi guys i have an sl300 and she has a weird little problem. when i go to start her up she splurts and almost fires (Kicks) but then dies if i keep turning the starter past this point she will not start. if i stop and turn the key back she kick and dies again but almost always fires up straight away on the second attempt after the first splutter. she will run toally fine after this and will never really fire first time first kick. any ideas?????

yeah it always almost starts fine when the engine has been running. just from a cold start and yes it seems to be getting worse now that the colder damp weather is here. i did try spray some wd-40 on th distributor and in at the leads to keep out dampness but it has made no difference. sniff sniff

yea, I have a 300 engine like this, they just seem to be one way or the other, mine cranks for about 6-7 seconds when cold, always starts 1st time though, when hot fires right up

Does it have a cold start sensor? If so could be that, when they go faulty the get the air/fuel mix all to cock, thats why it starts easier when it`s warm. Just an idea, not done alot on Mercs but common fault on VW`s.
