Hi, 1994 e class 220 estate,I am plagued by a starting fault after ,say,a 500 yard run then stop engine, pop in shop........... look an idiot because it wont start.Go back in shop and buy a paper, read for 5 mins.start engine and go.Now apart from becoming a more social, political, and sportingly aware i am becoming pi88ed off.
I have seen on this forum articles about sticking butterfly valves on the inlet but i cant remember the procedure for checking this. Also is there a simple cause other than choke?
Please help ,i am beginning to look like a prat( and that aint nice!!)
cheers Colin

The worst thing you can do to an engine is to start it then stop it again after a short while. The over-fueling from the cold start can kill the cat as well as causing other problems. I would try and find a method whereby you don't have to start and stop after such a short time. Walk? or go to the shop on your way home when switching off and re-starting is not an issue as the car is hot.
It will be a cold starting/over fueling issue you have.

It might be condensation in the distributor cap. This can form after start-up and if the engine is switched off before being thoroughly warmed through remains and causes poor starting.
It's worth removing the cap and cleaning inside as they do become dirty, if its the original its probably overdue for a change anyway.

Hope this helps!
