clk 320 starting problem

I have a 98 clk320.always starts from cold but once its warm wont start. If i turn the key the engine starts to crank momentarily but then stops. i might have to do this 20 or 30 times(sometimes more) before it will start again.(new starter and battery fitted)the interior lights dim greatly when i do this:is there a relay or starter module anywhere or is it the switch? also it suffers from battery drain when left for a couple of weeks.anyone know the answer

My last car (TVR Chimaera) although never suffering from the following problem, might give a clue:

There was a frequent problem with V8 TVRs, where the car when hot wouldn't start. The problem was a lack of a relay on the starter solenoid, the hot engine raised the resistance of the solenoid wire and therefore not enough current could be supplied. This is because TVR removed the relay from the circuit (which was off a Range Rover) for some bizarre reason. The solution was to stick a relay on the circuit, and get the power direct from the alternator terminals - never failed.

So, I'd give the relay that controls the starter a check, but I don't know your car so its just a total guess.

looking where you say the light dim would suggest a faulty starter again,A bad battery connection could also do this.
The only real way is to put a volt meter on the starter, that will tell you exactly what it is

Battery drain could be due to your alarm/immobiliser system, depending on type and accessories.
Otherwise, a bad earth connection, possibly to the engine, is usually favorite as Malcolm suggests.
