Hi ppl,

Hope someone can help...

My 190E 2.0 Auto has a starting problem.
Although the ignition turns it doesn't fire up straight away.
This happens when the car has been standing for some hours and especially on morning starts.
However once started and warmed up and then turned off and on again it fires up within 1 or 2 attempts.
Also when i've struggled to get it started (after many cranks) the idling seems to be weak....

I'm now pulling my hair out because it's been back and forth to a benz specialist who's replaced the relay and 1 or more of the injectors, but can't seem to fix the starting.
After a huge bill I don't want replace items blindly so any advice would be much appreciated.

Should I replace the plugs and ignition leads???

Thanks in advance.

hi, you could also check the cold start valve which injects extra fuel on cold start-ups, as the car presumably has a k jetronic fuel injection system.
another possiblity may be a blocked fuel filter.

Hi,

I've a 300E engine (6-cyl) with the same problem. It takes ages to start first thing in the day or after a long rest, but then after will always start first time. Mercedes dealer could not fix the problem and as I've replaced most of the ignition system, I believe it may be related to the Jetronic fuel injection. It runs well otherwise and so I suspect that it may be the cold start device not working properly.

arnie,

i would check the cold start valve first as this is designed to spray extra fuel into the combustion chamber during cold start ups and during warm -up of the engine-if this valve is fine then i would go on to check the resting postion of the inlet air intake flap ,the correct position of this is crucial as i had a similar problem on an audi coupe which has a similar k jetronic system to the merc.if this flap is not sitting centrally then it would stick and cause hard starting from cold-to centralise it,there should be a central nut or bolt on the flap which needs to be loosened, flap adjusted and bolt tightened-that is if only if your car has a k jetronic sfuel injection system.
