I think you need professional help with this. I'd get it on a STAR machine to see what faults are recorded. MAF problems seem to be the commonest fault on E220s

Put some more info up ie why did you change the fuel pump etc in the first place? Was engine not running? What were symptoms?

You may get more clues that way.

the car has been off the road for about a year. I t had been started regularly during this time but not driven. I could not hear fuel pump priming, removed it from car applied 12v, motor seized. New pump installed new filter, new relay and new ovp relay which was badly corroded. The car will now start easily and run for a few seconds then cut out. spraying down throat will keep it running so I suspect fuel not being atomised. Charles

Obviously this is a fuel related problem and I think it may be that the diaphragm in your fuel pressure regulator is faulty, no.26 in this diag.; http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=717.413&CT=M&cat=19K&SID=07&SGR=095&SGN=02
; to check, start your engine ,when it stalls leave the ignition on and disconnect the vacuum pipe from the fuel pressure regulator, if any fuel is dripping from the regulator then the diaphragm is leaking and changing the regulator should hopefully solve your problem.

thanks for advice George, checked that , no fuel dripping from fuel pressure regulator. leaning towards injectors but would car start and run at between 2000 and 3000 revs but not idle at around 800 Charles

I'm clutching at straws here but I had a similar problem with a Vauxhall (sorry!). Turned out to be the ballast resistor in the ignition coil. A new coil cured it.

Ignition Module or EZL as people tend to call it.

No sign of air leak or fuel leak.if the car starts and holds at 2000 plus revs, what would the symtoms be if the injectors were needing replaced. the problem does not seem to be temperature related.

Does it start again on a second attempt and run for 10 seconds and then shut back down or do you have to wait for a while before it will start again?

And this is a dumb question, but did you clean out the fuel tank when you replaced your fuel pump?

Look into these if they are on your model:

Fuel shutoff switch

Idle Control Valve

i have being having the same problems on my car (1993 220te) but i have found the cure.
Check the cabling to your MAF sensor. for some reason, more than likely due to abrasion from the fixing clip, the outer casing of the loom was damaged and the individual wires were crumbling and left naked to short each other out. Once i descovered this problem i used insulation tape to cover the wires for almost their entire length, i intend on replacing the loom though.
Immediately the car would idle and was running perfectly until the engine temperature rose above 80 degree (this is a separate problem though), anyway i have been driving it like this for the last few hundred miles and it hasnt cut out once.

HTH

if you need pics of the problem let me know.

thanks

thanks for your experience, checked the maf wiring, all ok. looking at the motronic fuel injection ignition system I can see that a spring is broken, not the throttle return spring but a shorter one, I cannot see where the other end of the new spring should go, anyone have a picture showing set up Charles Isles
