I am considering for general use having a set of steel wheel rims with suitable for a 2005 CLK220. Is this feasible ? What size of rim and tyre could be used ?
it could be done. is the spare wheel full size and has the same tyre size as the alloys fitted to the car? or at least not a spacesaver? there are a number of things to remember if you do this though. firstly many people will say it will ruin the look of the car with steel wheels on, also you will need to source not only wheels and tyres, but shorter wheel bolts and thirdly, this alteration will have to be declared as a modification to your car insurance as it changes it from standard specification. personally, i wouldnt change them. just wash the wheels thoroughly every week and that should reduce any problems with corrosion or baked on brake dust to a minimum. incidentally, if your car only has a spacesaver spare, id try 16inch wheels and 215/55 x 16 tyres (after checking the wheels fit correctly) as the clk has a visually identical front end to an e class, so id guess the e class wheel/tyre combination ive suggested should be about right.
