has anyone experience of adjusting a 129 steering box?
on a couple of 129s I have had there has been a knocking which is telegraphed to my foot. This occurs especially when driving over a sleeping policemen in say a car park at an angle ie both wheels not going over at the same time.

I have checked the wheel bearings, tracking etc etc and it has been suggested that the 129 has some adjustment in the steering box but that it has to be set up correctly otherwise it can cause problems.

If anyone has any experience of adjusting the steering box please let me know

I think I am also going to need a new shock on the front - it's upset (weeping)

Thanks

Steve

I'd adjust the steering box after sorting all other problems and only if there is significant slack that needs taking up. And then I wouldn't overdo it

The clonking is probably the front antiroll bar bushes

This will adjust steeering pre-load but will not cure a knocking. As above, start with antirollbar bushes.

You'll need to replace them in pairs - probably worth doing the bushes as well.

Bilstein replacements can be found on eBay from time to time - I had a pair for £45 I think - worked wonders.

All fixed

well the knocking noise was actually from the lefthand near side shock but the anti roll bushes were worn too and I had those doen at the same time. Had the shock replaced with oem units
No she's quiet and handles much better than before.
