Traction control light is permanently on and I have been told the steering column control module had a fault on it and will require replacing with a new one, apparently a used one can’t be reprogrammed for my car? Have been quoted £550 to supply and fit. Car is a 2013 E220 convertible manual.Do I have any alternative but to pay, thanks, Bob

Welcome to the forum Bob.

If the main dealer has diagnosed the fault, I don't think you have much choice but to go along with their quote and have it replaced.

Welcome Bob
I had mine done on the 230 by an Indy, if I remember correctly it was £350 supplied and fitted, I think the difference will be main dealer labour. It would be worth checking with a local Indy if you have one....

Thanks for that, this was an Indy quote which is why i was suprised at the cost.

Am getting it done somewhere else again this morning and will get a printout of the diagnostic this time so i can post it here.

No worries, to be fair mine was 3+ years ago, but I wouldn't have thought it would have moved that much (although the 207 module might be dearer)

So now got fault codes (attached)

Code 6304 and 6305 - Steering angle sensor or Steering column tube module control unit - Defect - Permanent.

Apparently on the A207 model this is a combined unit. Cost from Mercedes is £350 just for the unit which needs programming to my car.

Question now is can I buy a used unit and get it reprogrammed for my car?

Are you reluctant to ask your Indy as he wants the sale profit for the unit? At least this explains the price difference.
Sorry I don't know the answer sadly
