Steering Emergency

Hi Guys,

I am still trying to sort out my steering box woes. I have transplanted the steering box, replaced all the various rods, had a 4 wheel alignment and my steering wheel is still not straight.

But the main problem is that I have managed to end up over 100 miles away from home with a suspected loose drop arm.

Does anyone know what size socket I need to tighten this bad-boy back up?? I am thinking of raiding a halfrauds to buy a socket, breaker bar and a trolley jack. All those tools I have and not one in the car!

Basically I am on business in Cambridge and my car is parked up in Saffron Walden. If there is anyone in the area who can help please let me know!

I should be back with my car on Wednesday afternoon, so if anyone has any ideas feel free to PM me.

Regards,

Andrew

P.S. I think I have worked out a way to adjust the steering box on the v8's, if I ever manage to get this back home I will post the instructions!

Hi LandyAndy

What M-B model do you have? Without more information it would be difficult to offer advice.

Why have you not called in a professional mechanic who could probably sort your car out in a couple hours?

The tools you seek won't be cheap and I'd sooner hand the money and grief over to a mechanic, preferably an indie, if you fear the expense of using a MB dealership. I imagine there must be several garages in or around Saffron Walden able to fix your car.

I've just noticed the date of your post ... presumably the problem has been resolved? Was it a loose drop arm? You didn't seem sure in your post.

REGARDS

Phil
