my C250 is a P Reg and therefore has a Physical Key ignition.
Unfortuanately the key will now not turn in the Barrel and I, therefore, cannot take off the steering lock. The vehicle is now stranded and I cannot think of any way to take off the lock and start the car. Is there a some 'Get you home' method of moving the car or better still can the problem be solved 'roadside'

Any help would be gratefully recieved

You will have to get the key turned to position 1 so you can insert 2 pieces of welding wire and remove the ignition barrel. The way I done mine on my 190 was to grip the key with pliers pulling the key in and out slightly whilst trying to turn it, I was there for ages until it finally moved. I take it will be the same setup for the C class even with the steering lock on the opposite side to the 190.

A word of caution if it does turn [DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION RIGHT OFF AGAIN]

this might be pointless saying, but have you tried turning (clicking) the steering wheel left or right while jiggling the key in the ignition ?

cheers

You are right, it amazes me that so many people never take the presure off the lock before turning the key

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will try them all.

This could not have happened at a worst time for me, but I am sure most people would say that; but honestly it could'nt

Thanks everybody

If you manage to get it removed you can get a service key and barrel from Mercedes while they get you a new one which has the same key as your car

Also try jiggling the gear shift (assuming its an auto) as this is linked too.
I had the same problem a hour after I collected my shiny C220 back in '99. Put the key in fine but it wouldn't turn. After a lot of mucking about by the mechanic sent by the embarresed dealer, it ended up going back on a low loader. Barrel had collapsed internally apparently. As above, they put in a temporary one to get me going and ordered up the proper replacement to match the key.
