i have recently started to get a whining/groaning noise on the steering when i turn the wheel in either direction. i have also noticed if i push down on the suspension it also creaks and groans could this be related to the steering noise. the car in question is a 190e on a h plate that has done 116k. i also have another querie i have mayo in the water tank i originally thought that it was the head gasket but the oil chamber and dipstick areas are totally mayo free. i have done over 6k like this and no problems anyone got any ideas

Hi,

Well ure whining noise sounds like the powers steering pump needs bleeding. Have you checked the level of fluid in the power steering chamber? If there is fluid in there, leave the top off the pump and do a few lock to lock steering wheel turns on the spot, this sometimes lets the fluid circulate better. If not ure gonna have to bleed the power steering system properly.

Not sure about ure mayo problem, have you flushed it out and replaced with new water? Does it still reoccur?

Cheers

Jay

Sounds like you have a dry bottom ball joint on the wishbone
Mine did this and gave exactly the simptoms you're describing....horrible groaning / creaking sound when braking / turning sterring wheel (especialy when stationary)or on any large suspension movment.

I took the boot off the ball joint and re-packed it with some high pressure / high melting point greese.......bit of a fiddly job but so far all is well.... but if the ball joint is worn you'll haveto replace it ......most of the time the easiest way is to replace the whole lower wishbone.

Forgot to say oil leeks in a head gasget are not always two way....
It may still be the head gasget.
