Hi,
Another mundane question from me I'm afraid.
I want to replace my steering wheel and gear lever knob from the dark blue looking colour to the same light grey as the seats, door cards etc, but also with a light wooden inlay to match the wooden trim I already have in the car (steering wheel and knob).
I have noticed on ebay steering wheel "caps", which I dont think would be very good, although they look OK in the photo's - can anyone confirm this.
Where is the best place to get replacements, I have looked on the German, U.S. and U.K. sites, but cant seem to find the colour combinations I am after, or not for my model.
My wooden trim is a light colour, what is it called?
Also door cards - are they an MB dealer purchase only?
My car is an SL 320 1999 facelift.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanx.

The door cards are MB only, do you need the whole card or only parts.

Hope this helps a little.

Door card replacement

Thanx Malcolm I do have this site on my PC, but maybe you can put me straight on this.
A while back I went to my local MB dealer and enquired about replacing both door cards, or rather the inners (no. 50, door central) that have the handle, and also both pocket lids (no. 60).
I was told that I would have to purchase all of the door card at £168 each! but I only require both "inner" and pocket lids. It seems to me that I can infact purchase just the parts I require - am I correct in thinking this?
It certainly would be a lot cheaper.

If you can remove the bits you need, they should have a part number moulded/stamped on the back.

Try ordering just that part number, you might get a different response. Try here:

Use the form to contact them.

Thanx POD your sugestion brings up another question - am I ok taking the door card off?
What I mean is could the air bag in the door go off if I attempt to move the door cards?
I guess there is a solution to this.......Malcolm???

By disconnecting the battery and waiting 15mins you play safe. People do take the cards off without doing this (macho types). There is nothing on the door card joined to the air bag, this is screwed firmly to the door at the top.
