is the wheel complete

with a centre pad? If so, I doubt that you'll get the airbag to work in it, as I've an idea they are specially designed to hold the airbag doings. You shouldn't try and remove your old wheel without following some very specific routines. In fact, I think you will be taking a serious risk if you try and do any work at all on the airbag system, wheel included, unless you are qualified to do so.
Have a search on here for airbag removal and see what comes up.

according to my stealership I can simply transfer the airbag from my existing wheel to the new one - but I think I'll leave it to them as I don't want it to blow up in my face!

Very easy to change, you will need a Torque T30 tool to open the airbag from behind the steering wheel.

Best to disconnect the battery first.

Otherwise the airbag light wil come on.

Yes as Cosworth,,dis connect battery and wait 15 mins . when off place face up out of the sun,

I took mine off last week.

The steering wheels can be tight the 10mm allen key bolt is best taken off with an garage air line wheelbolt tool.

Dont turn the key or start the car as this will record a fault with the air bag off.

It could be easier in a garage as it takes all of 5 mins to do the whole job

Seeing the TF again reminds me of how low and long they were,, and hard to take on board a ferry..

Very nice though

If you are going to change your steering wheel, would not it be a good idea to install a new air bag as well as I understand that they have a life of just 15 years.

Thanks for all the advice. maybe a good idea to fit a new bag as you never know when these things will be needed particularly with the number of deer on the road round here. Friend of mine lost his car a few months back as it jumped directly on top of the car. He never saw it.
