Hi all,

I am stumped as to why my car stereo keeps turning itself off. This problem only started in the last couple of months and it is intermittent. I had the mechanic check it out with a diagnostic and he suggested that my battery is on the way out. To make things worse I am confused as to what battery to buy as I have never had a Merc before. Can anyone advise on what type of battery to buy as I hate going to Euro Car Parts? Preferably Amazon or an eBay Link will do. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome

Have you tested the battery voltage? Should be 12.4 with engine offand >14v with engine running.

Does everything else in the car work?

I have had issues with a Ford Focus radio turning off, I found a lot of the insulation had cracked off allowing them to short out.

If you want to go online try Tayna batteries. Good prices & quick delivery. Several of us use them. Or give MB Grangemouth a ring. Say you'r on the forum & get a discount. They will be dearer, but you will get a OEM battery.
Look at your battery. the date may be on a label or a date stamp on the terminals. If it's the original battery change it before the winter.

I had the mechanic test it and he says that the voltage is fine on the stereo, everything else is in the car works. The stereo is an upgraded system and it sounds amazing in fact it's the reason that I bought the in the 1st place.

Looks like I need to change the battery opened up the bonnet and discovered that it's the original battery. I could not believe that the original battery was still there. Anyway took a picture sent to my Mechanic

One thing to look out for with Tayna is that their eBay store is more expensive than buying direct, even with postage costs. I had an enquiry on one of their batteries, and asked why there was a difference of £40 on the one I wanted. Tayna told me that it was to cover eBay fees.

If the voltage is fine, then why are you changing the battery?…o_O

When you say “upgraded system“ is this a Mercedes upgrade or something a previous owner has added? Please post a picture of it.

I mean the sound system. I finally got around to changing the battery which transpires to be the original one so the stereo problem disappeared too. Even though all is well now with the car now, I keep looking at the c300 and c400 coupe every time one goes past me in envy and an itch to get a newer model on a 2016 plate. Looking like next year. C'est la vie.

Happy New year all. Stereo is Dead, Cluster lights gone and now the car keeps telling me that the light bulb is gone but it has not. Any suggestions for a Merc specialist? She now judders when I put my foot down to accelerate. Looks like a bill is coming. Please Help. Anywhere West London will do

My first check would be the battery connections .Check and see if the earth lead is tight on the post. Next the fuse holder for the radio might not be making a good contact .

Replaced the battery, not more than a year ago with the highest crank and had it checked this morning @ Halfords and the contact was good. The speedometer is now intermittent.
