Sticking Pads?

I recently (200 miles ago) changed the rear discs and pads with MB parts.

On the nearside, a black circular line about 10mm wide has appeared on the surface on the disc in the middle.

Looked on the internet and the Juratec website showed a picture of a disc with the same problem and labelled it "Lining transfer", caused by overheating.

I am told that caliper pistons on these cars very rarely stick, could it just be a pad sticking in the caliper? I did clean the caliper out, put perhaps not enough.

Any advice or experience of this much appreciated.

Jack it up and try turning the wheel by hand to see if its free or not, then press the brake and check that after its released the wheel turns freely

When fitting new pads, often the paint needs to be filed or sanded off, they most not be a tight fit, you do not have a sliding caliper on that car., as Delboy jack the car and spin the wheel to check that it free, l light touching is OK

i usually gently file or scrape hard where the pads sit and slide along on the cariers to ensure they are free from corrosion bubbles that can make pads stick. used to be a common fault on sierra and mk 3 granada rear pads and escort front pads from about 94ish onwards. scrape or better still gently file them back to clean, shinyish metal, coat with copper grease, taking care not to get it onto the discs (ive seen it happen!) and when reassembled the pads should be nice and free

Thanks for the advice - guess that is what I will be doing at the weekend then!

Do you think any lasting damage will have been done?

I dont think so, the disc would have to have got very hot for any damage to tack place, I also think on re reading this that it could be just that the face of the disc has not bedded in yet, 200 miles is not very far, mine took further that to bed in across the whole face

Thanks Malcolm

The black line has gone now, but I will take your advice and clean the caliper out properly.
