WD 40 is not a lubricant and it dries, The best thing that I have ever used on these things are the Silicon/teflon sprays, they are not messy or oily as such and they do not dry

Cheers Malcolm,
I haven't touched it yet; however it looked as if it had ordinary HMP Grease on it that had oxidised/congealed over time .

Silicon chain lube' would do wouldnt it?

Yes why not, I use the one for router cutters as it is so clean, When I got my SL the boot was very stiff, one swing and it closes itself now.

It can aso be used in window channels
