sticky starting

Hi all. recently purchased an 88' 560sel.
engine is lovely with good oil pressure etc.
noticed that it doesn't start as 'on the button' (ie half a key turn!!) as my 1985 500sl did, requiring some cranking.
Also noticed that she doesn't fire on all cylinders for about 4secs and then all 8 kick in.
My feeling is that something is sticking?? Least that's my simplistic thought pattern

is there anything I can check??
