Another from me today...

Having come from a 330Ci sport to my mercedes one of the most obvious differences is the suspension. The 330 was taught and, whilst you did feel every stome on the road, it gave for superb handling. The 320 is much softer, albeit an Avantgarde SE.

Any suggestions for stiffening the suspension and creating better cornering capability? Or would that just spoil the Mercedes experience? Plus any ideas on likely cost?

Thanks

I'd start with wheel and tyre combinations before going over to stiffer and shorter springs. That way you have more control.

I think you have touched on the great MB v BMW debate, if I were to want just a driving experience I would not buy MB but as an all round car I would choose the Merc anyday. Apart from the quality dip in the mid 90s to 2002 the quality and build are what I am looking for. Lets say MB marketing have conjured up sporting pretensions to lift sales but I really see them as great touring machines.

Does your C320 have the optional Sport Package (17" alloys, lowered suspension, bigger brakes etc)?

I had a C200K Avantgarde Estate with Sport Package and I was very impressed with the ride/handling mix.

If yours doesn't have the Sport Package perhaps it is possible to fit the sports suspension which would be almost an 'official' upgrade.

Yes mine does have the sports package (17" alloys (the 5 spoke ones, yes?), 3 spoke steering wheel, lowered suspension (I think) and I believe bigger brakes) but it's much springier than my 330. I'm not unhappy with it by any stretch of the imagination (in fact it's pleasant to have a softer ride) but on twisties it could be more taught.
