Yes, thats what the pollen filter (also known as the charcoal filter) is for,to stop smelly things entering the cab.

pollen filter and carbon are different
A sole pollen filter is pure whilte and only stops pollen dust etc.
A combined pollen/ carbon filter is greyish, indicative of the carbon, used to trap the odours, its also traps dust particles.
some cars have either, neither or both

Do all cars have the carbon filter as well as the pollen one?
My 203 has the luxury climate and has the 2 according to the handbook, it says that the carbon filter is for smells and pollen for dust / pollen.

It has no information in the service guide as to when the carbon filter should be changed (if at all) I changed the pollen one when I got the car.

I was getting a diesel smell from a small leak (now sorted) and a bit of an oily smell (now hopefully sorted). The car is smelling better by the day. I have also bought from flebay a can of Forte ( I really rate their stuff) air con cleaner and when I know all my leaks are cured I will give that a try and report the results
