My son drove his Ford Focus home and parked up on the drive yesterday morning, had lunch then went back to the car which refused to start. Had a look later that day the engine was cranking, good spark and plenty of fuel, started to think ECU or electronics (not my strong point) any way walked to the Indi who fettles my merc and after telling him the symptoms he returned with me to look at the car. He cranked it over for 5 secs opened the bonnet and removed the oil filler cap (it hissed as he did so) got back in turned the engine over and it fired first time. He told me that with Vtek engines the hydraulic lifter can become stuck if the wrong oil is used and pressure builds up in the engine, I do not doubt him as it now works but has any one heard of this??

He is lucky that the engine survived, the oil for those engines is like water, synthetic and pricey. I have heard of this killing the engine.
